MY RUIN: Do Not Buy Our "Greatest Hits" CD
May 31, 2002MY RUIN, who recently parted ways with their former label Snapper Music (as reported here several days ago),have issued a statement discouraging their fans from purchasing Blasphemous Girl, a "Best Of" double-CD compilation due through Snapper on June 24th. Here is the group's statement in its entirety:
"On June 24, 2002, our former label in the U.K. Snapper Music/Madfish plan to release a double CD of MY RUIN's Greatest Hits. The compilation is titled Blasphemous Girl. This record was put together without the consent of MY RUIN and without our knowledge. In fact, we did not find out about it until recently when it was posted on our message board as an inquiry from a fan after he had read about it on metalhammer.co.uk. Snapper Music did not even have the decency to tell our band they were putting this record out, and when we confronted them, they had no explanation as to how the info got to the press. They lied to us once again.
"Snapper Music was given 3 records from MY RUIN and failed miserably to promote any of them the way they should have been promoted and gave us little if any support as a label. They offered to bring us back to tour the U.K. and play the Reading/Leeds Festivals last year only if we would agree to do another record with them (not to support the ones we had just released),so we declined. This new record which they are about to release contains songs off all three of our previous records plus b-side singles. It has NOTHING NEW whatsoever to offer and it does NOT have our blessing! Because they cannot get another record from MY RUIN, Snapper Music is trying to milk the fans of our band by reissuing material under the guise of 'greatest hits'.
"The songs [for Blasphemous Girl] were compiled by a writer from Kerrang who also contributed the liner notes which we have gotten a hold of and decided to post [on our official web site]. We have always done our own artwork and created our own imagery on the covers and inserts of our records. All we know at this point is what the cover will look like. We are pretty sure that the photos and artwork inside will be recycled material from our past records as well.
"Please do NOT allow this half-assed label's day late and a dollar short attempt to make money fool you into buying this record! Just keep your fingers crossed that these idiots do not license this record to Spitfire [Records] in the U.S. like they did with the others and that they hopefully do a spell-check before releasing this because as you will notice...there are a few song title errors. It's sad how corrupt the record industry really is. Don't buy into the lies...we urge you....SAVE YOUR MONEY! This is NOT a 'COLLECTORS ITEM'! We have written 18 new songs and plan to release a new record very soon so hold tight and keep rocking our 'REAL' records until then. Good things come to those who wait ...WE PROMISE!"
